We value your feedback and recommendations for improving our work environment and patient safety and care. That is why we have created multiple channels through which your voice can be heard. These include:
- Town hall meetings that are hosted by executive leadership
- Daily safety huddles and weekly and monthly leader-led meetings
- Open-door policy
- Formal grievance policy and hotline
- Employee committees, including the Employee Engagement Committee and Patient Experience Committee, which provide feedback to the hospital’s Executive Leadership Team
- Our high-reliability initiative, which provides safety training and tools, and encourages people to speak up and practice a questioning attitude. Hospital leaders meet to debrief and tend to any potential safety issues raised by employees.
- Twice-a-year MyVoice Employee Experience Surveys
You Speak, We Listen … And Act
Some of the most important improvements we’ve implemented have been inspired by feedback from our team members. Based on what team members have shared in the annual MyVoice Employee Experience Survey and other channels, we have and continue to enhance your work experience. Here are just a few improvements that have resulted from our direct dialogue with you.
Improvements in Communication and Leadership
- Increased Dignity Health St. Joseph’s executive leader communication with employees, especially around strategic direction, OneCommonSpirit, and collaboration with our sister hospitals throughout Arizona, in the Central Region, and throughout CommonSpirit Health.
- Increased employee rounding by leaders, creating more opportunities to share feedback and ask questions.
- Expanded and enhanced learning opportunities to help onboard new leaders and educate existing leaders. Examples include a leadership orientation, HR Info Hours, and Crucial Accountability classes.
Work Life Balance and General Employee Satisfaction Improvements
- Lyra, our new mental health provider to lead our employee assistance program. New services include an easy-to-use app, easier access to counselors, and a wide range of web-based services that cover personal and work-related topics. Employees also have 24/7 access to Lyra Essentials, a dedicated hub for self-care and mindfulness content.
- MyWellness, an improved well-being program focused on well-being and work/life balance. MyWellness offers up to $450 in financial rewards per program year when you complete selected healthy activities, like mindfulness sessions, volunteering, sleep improvement, healthy eating, tracking physical activity and much more.
- Virtual Well-Being Fair centered on overall wellness and finding your joy, both professionally and personally. Sessions included resilience, decompression, ergonomics, weight loss, meal prep, meditation and more.
- Code Kindness, which provides direct emotional support to employees, as well as referrals, in a timely and compassionate manner, and through a single point of contact.
- Beginning Feb 1, 2024, our new “Student Loan Support” education benefit launches for benefit-eligible employees who have earned a degree at any national or regionally accredited institution. Our enhanced education benefit will include:
- Monthly contributions paid for by Dignity Health toward an employee’s student loan balance to help relieve financial burden and reduce debt faster. The amount of contribution will vary depending on the employee’s full- or part-time benefit eligibility status:
- Up to $9K over 5 years for part-time eligible employees
- Up to $18K over 5 years for full-time eligible employees
- Monthly contributions paid for by Dignity Health toward an employee’s student loan balance to help relieve financial burden and reduce debt faster. The amount of contribution will vary depending on the employee’s full- or part-time benefit eligibility status:
Professional Development Improvements
- We have now partnered with five universities that provide tuition grants or discounts that match our tuition assistance, which can result in a degree with low to no tuition costs:
- Colorado Tech University
- Capella University
- University of Arizona Global Campus
- University of Phoenix
- Walden University
- Workpalooza, onsite and virtual education and career fairs. The events are focused on employee development, engagement and retention by increasing the awareness of educational benefits and career development opportunities.
- Increased and enhanced professional development opportunities (non-compliance modules) in Pathways.
Improvements to Infrastructure and Employee Amenities
- Improvements to Joseph’s infrastructure, including:
- Resilience rooms, strategically placed throughout the hospital for team members
- Sixteen med/surg beds added to 7NNA
- Construction of the Barrow Neuroplex
- Construction of the Ivy Brain Tumor Center
- Renovation of Café 1895 kitchen and some retail areas of the café
- A refresh of the Camelback Elevators
- Floor upgrades on Neuro Floors 4, 5 and 6
- New nurses station in Neuro Rehab
- Renovation of the Café 1895 patio
- Nurse call upgrades
Improvements in Employee Recognition
- Opportunities for recognition through the Acts of Humankindness Awards, Board Excellence Award, DAISY Awards, Nurse of the Year Award, Milestone Anniversary Recognition, and professional and occupational certifications
Safety, Quality, and Performance Improvements
- Daily safety huddles
- Daily leader rounding
- Implementation of the high-reliability initiative, which provides safety training and tools, and encourages people to speak up and practice a questioning attitude.
- The establishment of the HRO Steering Committee
- The establishment of HRO safety
- Continued improvements in quality, patient experience, and finances because of ongoing employee feedback
